Dear Church Family,

On Wednesday afternoon, the Newnan City Council implemented a temporary ordinance that prohibits by law any public gathering within the Newnan City Limits larger than ten people until April the 8th.  This means that our postponement of in-person services and all other in person church activities will be temporarily extended.

For the time being, we will continue to meet online for Sunday and Wednesday services at the regular times.  You can access the livestream of our services through our church Facebook page. No Facebook Account…no problem.  You won’t need a facebook account to watch the services on our Facebook page. Simply point your web browser to Facebook.com/calvarynewnan.

I will continue to closely monitor communications from the President’s Coronavirus Task Force, Governor Kemp’s office, the Department of Public Health, and from our City and County Governance.  My hope is that very soon it will be safe and lawful to meet together again in Person. Until that time, I will do my best to keep you updated weekly on Fridays with videos and transcripts posted to our Facebook page, to Faithlife, and to our Church Website.

Shannon will continue to post Sunday School literature for our Calvary Kids to our Faithlife Group and to our Church Facebook page.  We want to encourage all of our parents to conduct a kitchen table Sunday School with your kids.

Pastor JP will continue to meet with our Students twice per week using Zoom, which is a web tool that allows us to have face to face meetings from our computers.  Students will meet on Sunday evenings for a “Hang Out” at 5:30, and for youth group on Wednesday evenings at 6:30.

On Mondays mornings from 10-11am, I will conduct a Pastor’s Power Hour via Zoom where we can gather Online for Face to Face Fellowship and Prayer.  If you would like to join in, I will post the Zoom meeting link on our Calvary Chapel Newnan Faithlife Page. Simply click the link to join the meeting.

Last week, I met with the leaders of our campus ministry groups and asked for their help in keeping our church socially connected.  If you have a need that our church can meet, please reach out to a Pastor or any group leader. During this unique season of our ministry, Group leaders will be checking in, and reporting back to me about the health and wellness of our church families.

You can always reach out to me directly, and my personal contact information is posted for our church family on Faithlife.

Finally, The Newnan City Council has asked all of us to observe a voluntary Shelter in Place policy.  In light of this, I have instructed our staff to transition to an at home work environment. We are still very much about our Father’s business and are working from our home offices.  We remain available to meet with you by appointment at the church building, to provide counselling and prayer, or to make supply drops as needed to your location. So long as we have one another and resources to share, there is no reason why anyone in our Fellowship should suffer.  Please reach out if you have a need and we will do our very best to respond quickly.

Remember to pray for one another, to pray for those in our community who are ill, to pray for those who are in authority that they might have wisdom from God, and to pray that this crisis trouble would soon pass.  Let’s also trust that God is up to something good, and that the words of Romans 8:28 are very true in this, and in every circumstance…that God really will work all things out for our good and for His glory.

May the Lord richly bless you.
Pastor Joel

CCN Coronavirus Update 3/20/1010

A brief update about the CCN response to the Coronaviris Pandemic.

Posted by Calvary Chapel Newnan on Friday, March 20, 2020

Dear Church Family,

Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. Romans 13:1-2

Therefore you must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for conscience’ sake. Romans 13:5 NKJV

As you know, the authorities have recommended that all of us avoid social gatherings in groups larger than ten people through the end of the month.  Both the CDC and the President’s Coronavirus Task Force have stated that the best way to prevent a massive outbreak of the Coronavirus is to temporarily distance ourselves from settings where the virus can more easily spread.

Our Church Staff and Elders continue to pray about the appropriate response and will continue to assess this situation daily.  Our hope and intent is to resume our public meeting schedule as soon as possible.

Here are some specific things that we want everyone in our Fellowship to know about our short term  plans at this time.

Let me assure you that even though this is a new and different season of our ministry, that we are very much about our Father’s business.  For a long time we have quipped that the church is not a building or a meeting…the church is each one of us that has been called out from the world to live for Jesus.  Please allow me to admonish you to be the hands and feet of Jesus on the street where you live. This Pandemic did not catch Jesus by surprise. If He allows us to go through a trial, we can rest assured that there is a purpose in it.  I am convinced that God is up to something good!

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.  Romans 8:28

Blessings in Jesus,

Pastor Joel Dover

Dear Church Family,

As I am sure you know by now, many organizations in our community have voluntarily suspended public gatherings where mass exposure to COVID-19 is possible.  We want to be responsible members of our community. Therefore, in the coming weeks, Calvary Chapel Newnan will be doing everything we can to ensure not only the spiritual well-being of our fellowship, but also physical well-being in regards to the Coronavirus pandemic.

This evening, our church Staff, with input from our Elders, met to pray, discuss, deliberate, and decide on a way forward for the next few days.  We agreed that temporarily suspending our public gatherings was the right and responsible action at this time. We will continue to monitor this situation and consider the council of the authorities as we re-evaluate our response regularly.  At this time, the Governor has specifically asked churches to participate in voluntary social distancing by temporarily suspending public gatherings of our Fellowships.

To comply with these requests, and in consideration of the recommendations of the CDC, the DPH, and our local agencies, Calvary Chapel Newnan will not be gathering this Sunday March 15, Wednesday March 18, or Sunday March 22.

We are encouraging everyone to stay home and to worship with us via our Facebook stream.  You can access the Facebook stream from our church Facebook page: www.facebook.com/calvarynewnan.

Our online service this Sunday will begin at the usual 10:30am time, and our Wednesday Bible study will begin at 7pm.  We will continue our Acts study on Sunday mornings, and our Kings study on Wednesday night.

Ministry groups will have the option to meet at their scheduled times, and each of you should check with your group leader on Faithlife, text, email, etc. for details.  We are trusting each ministry leader to make the right decision for their group, and want everyone to feel confident in making the best decision regarding in-person attendance.  We are also counting on ministry leaders to help us spread the word to each individual in your groups.

Our commitment to serving the Lord and our community remains strong.  The mission of our church hasn’t changed and will not change. We are certain that God is doing something mighty in all of this.  The ministry of our church will continue during this time. We will continue by faith to plan for future events and gatherings and will communicate any relevant changes as more information or instruction comes available. Our Pastoral staff is also available to our congregation without interruption.   While it will be different for us not to meet in person during this time, let’s be thankful for the technology that allows us to participate in worship together via the Internet.

Please also consider utilizing our online giving platform or mailing your gifts to the church office.  Obviously, our church expenses will remain the same during this time, even though we will not be meeting in person.  We appreciate your continued financial support of the ministry during this unusual season.

Let’s pray that this crisis will end soon and that we can resume public meetings in a safe and healthy environment.  Remember that our friends and neighbors are afraid, and that there are wonderful ministry opportunities to share Jesus with those who lack peace.  Rest assured, Jesus is still on His throne, and He is coming soon!
